Stephen Spagnuolo joined ZRG Partners with a principal mandate to launch and build a consequential cybersecurity leadership advisory practice. He delivers leadership talent and corporate development solutions to the firm’s clients, across security/cybersecurity and various other industry sectors, ranging from early-stage/startup to emerging growth to mid and large global corporates. In so doing, he leverages his deep and extensive network across the US National Security and Wall Street communities.
Prior to ZRG, Stephen was the founder and managing principal of SASearch Advisors, a strategic leadership advisory firm. Previously, as managing director and head of the Americas, he co-founded and built the New York office/US business of Sheffield Haworth, a London based global investment banking and financial services recruitment firm. His formative executive search years were spent with Russell Reynolds Associates in New York, as a member of the Global Banking & Markets Practice.
A graduate of the US Naval Academy, Stephen served with distinction as a US Marine Corps infantry officer. He deployed to multiple overseas contingencies; assignments of increasing responsibility include platoon leader, aide-de-camp and commanding officer.
Stephen is a founding Advisory Board Member for HMG Strategy CISO Executive Leadership Summits; for which he also serves as rotating panelist and moderator. He currently sits as an Advisory Board member for Kean University’s (NJ) Center for Cybersecurity; is on call with the US Naval Academy’s Center for Cyber Security Studies; serves as a cybersecurity “expert” and the go-to cybersecurity headhunter with RANE (Risk Assistance Network + Exchange); and is frequently engaged as guest panelist on cybersecurity recruitment for various executive leadership summits and forums, including HMG Strategy CIO Executive Leadership Summits. His ‘Notes From A Cybersecurity Recruiter’ blog is prominently featured with CSO Online, the digital forum for CSO Magazine.
Areas of Expertise
CXO talent acquisition and corporate development initiatives in/around the cybersecurity/security functional areas, across venture & PE backed, and mid to large multinational companies. Special emphasis is given to advising management teams and corporate boards on developing their chief information security officers (CISO’s) to become dynamic ‘next generation’ strategic thinkers and influential organizational leaders. And . . . Within the cybersecurity sector, on behalf of management teams of emerging growth product and services companies, and security consultancies.
Stephen graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a bachelor of science degree, having majored in political science.
Hobbies and Interests
Stephen is a now-former committed racquet and waterman. These days he and his wife spend every waking weekend hour at hockey rinks, on lacrosse and soccer sidelines and in poolside bleachers, up and down the eastern United States and north in to Canada . . . and they’re having a blast! He has coached numerous youth sports teams and sat as a board member on multiple youth sport town and travel clubs.
