Professional Profile

Thomas Fuller is a Managing Director in the firm’s New York and New Jersey offices, and serves as the Global Practice Leader for the Consumer sector. He is also a member of the firm’s Board, Life Science and Technology practices.  Tom brings a career that spans more than 25 years of executive search consulting and has delivered over 400 board and leadership projects for Fortune 500, Mid-cap and SME’s, as well as private equity, pre-IPO and venture-backed clients in the Consumer & Lifestyle, Life Science, and Technology & Digital sectors.  He is an expert in the digitization of the consumer sector, and has worked extensively in advertising, marketing, mobile technologies and various consumer services entities.

As the corporate markets have evolved and governance issues moving to the forefront of the conversation, Tom has served as a key influencer of the direction of Board and C-Suite composition through his stewardship with client management teams.

Tom is considered a leading authority on the intangible leadership traits that define talent who are recognized as the top 10% of C-Suite and Board leaders globally. With extensive expertise in talent strategies and leadership competencies, Tom is especially adept at helping client identify talent requirements/gaps mapped to concrete business objectives.

Tom has authored numerous thought leadership articles on various leadership topics to include Board Composition, Board & C-Suite Diversity, Ethical Leadership, Private Equity ROI and its correlation to leadership, and more.  He is called upon by numerous professional groups to speak on wide ranging talent and leadership topics. Tom is a regular contributor to the LinkedIn forms, Board Prospects and Business Insider and has his own blog, Return on Leadership, where he regularly shares insights about corporate leadership, governance, and how to build a competitive talent advantage.

An NACD Certified Board Governance Fellow, Mr. Fuller is an Independent Director and Chair of the Compensation Committee for Tingley Rubber Corporation, a leader in the PP&E industry.  He is also a Director of the NACD NJ Chapter where is Chairs the Nominating & Governance as well as the Director of the Year Awards Committees, served as a Board Director and America’s Council Treasurer of the Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC), and of IMD International Search Group.  Tom is the recipient of the AESC ‘s Eleanor Raynolds Award for Excellence in Executive Search & Commitment to the Community.

Previous Experience

Mr. Fuller was the founder of Epsen Fuller Group, a leading executive search, board advisory and leadership consulting firm, and served as its Managing Director & CEO since 1997.  Formerly a Partner with TASA’s TMP Worldwide (Johnson, Smith & Knisely), Tom entered the executive search profession with over 20 years as an operating executive in the consumer sector, Tom brings first-hand experience as founder & CEO of a consumer products manufacturer that culminated in its successful sale to Crystal Brands, a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Mills.

Hobbies and Interests

Faith, family and friends come first.  Tom is very active in a number of professional, civic and community organizations. An active fitness and cycling enthusiast, he is the founder of Freedom Riders Cycling Club, a cycling team dedicated to raising funds to support cancer research and increasing public awareness on the fight against cancer.
